My girl Mycah passed a year ago today. I still miss her, still feel the loss. Fortunately, I still have the lads.

My special girl is gone. She passed quietly in her sleep. Update: Many thanks for all the kind comments. It hurts to lose her. But y’know, other than family, Mycah was the longest close “relationship” of any kind that I’ve ever had. So maybe the sense of loss isn’t so surprising.

Mycah had a rough time with the vet on Tuesday. The procedure to remove a tiny skin growth ended up, because of her cancer history, with the removal of a chunk of flesh about the size of a quarter. Seven years ago today, I was be-catted. Mycah and Xaxu came to stay with me temporarily… but Mycah’s stay became permanent. She’s approaching 16 years old; I’m happy to have her, and hope she’ll be with me a while longer yet.

Mycah is 15 today. It’s impossible to forget Mycah’s birthday, coinciding, as it does, with America’s. Each shows signs of her age, but I love them both regardless.

Six years ago, Mycah (and her companion, Xaxu) moved in. At first it was meant to be temporary, a babysitting gig, but over time it became permanent. Just like my attachment to her. The first picture I took of Mycah, the night she arrived: Yeah… I am a cat guy.

There’s some sort of birthday celebration happening today. I can’t recall what it might be…. Oh, yes. It’s Mycah’s 14th. (click to embiggen) 14. Not bad for one who’s had cancer, and has diabetes and hyperthyroidism. She’s been slowing down lately, but perhaps she has another year or two left in her.
