Not-so-fond farewells

Someone, I think it was Mark Twain, once said that we ought to live our lives in such a way that we wouldn’t be ashamed to sell the family parrot to the town gossip.
Me, I’ll settle for never having my eventual obituary read like this one:

Dolores had no hobbies, made no contribution to society and rarely shared a kind word or deed in her life. I speak for the majority of her family when I say her presence will not be missed by many, very few tears will be shed and there will be no lamenting over her passing.
Her family will remember Dolores and amongst ourselves we will remember her in our own way, which were mostly sad and troubling times throughout the years. We may have some fond memories of her and perhaps we will think of those times too. But I truly believe at the end of the day ALL of us will really only miss what we never had, a good and kind mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. I hope she is finally at peace with herself. As for the rest of us left behind, I hope this is the beginning of a time of healing and learning to be a family again.
There will be no service, no prayers and no closure for the family she spent a lifetime tearing apart. We cannot come together in the end to see to it that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren can say their goodbyes. So I say here for all of us, GOOD BYE, MOM.

Some people make us happy when they arrive, others when they leave.

The richness of your life is about what you give while you are here…to PEOPLE…and some people are pretty stingy. Most people just try and acquire things for themselves their whole lives. Money, ego gratification, prizes. They focus only on themselves and can’t afford to give love …or ANYTHING to anyone else. They are so, so very weak. They don’t realize that this is our only time to give…in heaven there won’t be any need, or hurting people, or weak or sick or sad or poor people. Being able to give is a gift from God that is meant only for this brief lifetime… so that we can be imitators of Christ while we are here. I know a few people in my own family who will get more of a good riddance than a fond farewell.

    Amusing, but sad.

    How sad.
I grant that some people are simply not very nice (or not nice at all), but there may have been untreated illness there. Chemical imbalances in the brain can do terrible things.
