A Banner Day

Around my house, you know it’s a good day when the UPS man drops off:

  • the two latest Tom Clancy novels, Red Rabbit and The Teeth of the Tiger
  • four Rex Stout Nero Wolfe novels
  • Victor Davis Hanson’s Carnage and Culture
  • Jac Weller’s Wellington in India and Wellington in the Peninsula

I might be able to make these last as long as a whole month.

Voracious reader, eh? I’m curious to hear about the VDH book. I’ve heard good things about it. I bought his book on the columns collected post-9/11 [drawing a blank on the title] . They’re good columns, well written, but I could not seem to get the momentum to finish the book (maybe because I know the ending). VDH has been on a tear lately over redefining our foreign/military policy, and where we decide to locate military bases (in today’s NRO postings).

  2. No time for novels, here, but I have a complete set of VDH’s works, though I haven’t yet gotten around to Mexifornia. VDH should be required reading. Also look at the National Review archives of his columns. Loved Carnage & Culture and The Soul of Battle.
Top of my blog leads with a VDH quotation.
