Furthermore, what is it with the smart people always being the badguys?

  2. Russ says:

    Two words, Brian: jealous screenwriters.

  3. Ian S. says:

Hey, if I were evil I’d totally create giant robots. Maybe I watched too much Voltron as a kid.

  4. Brian B says:

Screw evil. I want giant robots to fight for good!
Dear Lord, is that the geekiest thing you’ve ever heard anyone say?

  5. Russ says:

Sounds like you would like Gigantor.
[The very first anime I ever watched as a kid – even before Speed Racer.]

  6. Brian B says:

    Yeah, Gigantor looks cool.
Have you seen the Iron Giant? It’s an awesome movie. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some crossover there.

  7. Russ says:

Ya, I’d say Iron Giant was a direct descendant of Gigantor, with an (un)healthy dose of lefty claptrap thrown in.

  8. Brian B says:

yeah, but I can look past it and still enjoy the movie. the self-sacrifical theme is touching and transcends the rest of it. Plus the interaction with the beatnik the first night they meet him is priceless comedy.
