Quick Netflix Review: “Taken”

Taken (2008)
Starring Liam Neeson, directed by Pierre Morel
Quick Review: This is the movie fathers ought to have playing on the big screen TV when their teenage daughters are being picked up for dates.
4½ stars
Good movie — better than I expected.
Neeson’s action sequences were better than those in the Star Wars prequel, and in his speeches he conveys “deadly intent” as well as I can recall seeing on the screen. The one speech people might be familiar with:
I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money.
But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.
If you let my daughter go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.
Oh, yeah.
If every father was as dedicated and skilled as Neeson’s character in this movie, kids would be safe walking through Central Park at 2am.
