Thomas Jefferson, writing about George Washington after his death:
His mind was great and powerful … as far as he saw, no judgment was ever sounder. It was slow in operation, being little aided by invention or imagination, but sure in conclusion…. “Presidents’ Day,” my eye. We don’t celebrate Polk, Hayes, or Cleveland. Today we remember George Washington.
“celebrate”? I don’t even feel like we celebrate anything on President’s Day. We just stay home from school, and enjoy the weekend. Who really knows anything about President’s Day? America has a lot of holidays that nobody’s really sure what we are celebrating anymore.
Thank God: Two real posts about President’s Day. The “Blogs for Bush” post was one of their worst ever. Besieged liberals surrounded with hard-right trolls. Insults, stupidity, and a generally unfriendly atmosphere. Russ, you’re too good for that site.
