Soul City

Back in the spring of 1988, at the behest of Uncle Sam, I shipped out to Korea. I spent the next 2½ years in the 2nd Infantry Division; I have a lot of memories — some bad, most good — about those years.

I’ve no idea what brought this particular memory to mind….

Of my 2½ years in Korea, I spent about a year living under canvas or in holes in the ground up near the DMZ. As one might expect, the prospect of eventually getting a weekend pass was near and dear to my heart, as it was to everyone’s. The goal was nearly always to spend a weekend in the capitol city, Seoul.

And for some reason, this song always ran through my head:

(Seoul City — get it?)

I may just be the only person I know who remembers that song. At least I remember it fondly.

It’s not that I’m ignoring y’all, as such. I’m just otherwise most thoroughly engaged in something utterly engrossing.

It’s called Mass Effect 3, and if by now you aren’t aware that I’m a fan, you haven’t been paying attention.

Here’s a sample mission I ran in the wee hours this morning. The goal: to protect some civilians from being kidnapped.

Experienced ME2/ME3 players will note that I didn’t make full use of my biotics. Mea culpa.
