Hello, Nurse!

Having spent the entire morning at the hospital for pre-op testing and such, I can now — after six years of theorizing — state with 100% certainty that Attractiveness must have been one of the absolute requirements placed before anyone who has to date entered the Nursing profession.

Because, yowza.

I was pretty sure about this before today, but I needed a slightly larger sample group.

And for those who didn’t get what the title of this post refers to, please allow me to clarify:

So yes, I’m off to the hospital for another operation next week. Rather than something that might directly impact the Ongoing Neurological Unpleasantness™, this is something simple that sort of cropped up while the neurology was being looked at: they’re gonna yank my gall bladder. Apparently, I have stones in there.

Of course, since no one has been able to figure out the root cause of my neurological woes, who knows? Maybe the gall bladder has some sort of funky effect.

Meh. We’ll see.

Anyway, I’ve got my sister coming out next week to handle the “driving heavily medicated Russ around town” chores. It’ll be good to see her, regardless — it’s been four years.

Egads… how did that happen? Time has really flown.

Naming (Un)conventions

Smitty over at The Other McCain notes that it might, just might, be a bad idea to name your kid(s) randomly. Throwing darts at a map, pulling Scrabble letters out of a bag, and picking names out of the police blotter section of the newspaper are all recipes for massive failure.

Do you really want to have that conversation where you explain to little Ulysses what chemical state prompted “Lithuania” to appear in the middle name position?

I would suggest to Smitty, and indeed to everyone, that there is no single better source for mockery of bad baby names than the weekly feature “The Name Game” at one of my long-time favorite blogs, Mostly Cajun.

He’s been at it a while; the latest entry in the Name Game series is #285, and as always is good for a laugh… even if the laughter is only there to keep you from crying about the state of the nation.
