Every day, I bring a beverage and a ziploc baggie full of ice cubes upstairs from the kitchen to my office so that I'll not have to try to climb the stairs with a mug full of ice. (Walking up the stairs is still rather difficult for me to do; trying to carry a full mug up the stairs would be very a bad idea.) I top off my mug with ice, pour a tastybeverage, and set the baggie on the floor. It holds enough ice to last me several hours.
I caught Mycah doing something odd with the baggie this week.
She's done it both before and since her dental adventure earlier this week, so I don't think the state of her teeth had anything to do with it. And she isn't doing it for the condensed moisture on the bag — I'm pretty sure she's drinking regularly from the water bowls I have around the house, since I top them off daily.
I suppose it could be an odd manifestation of her bag fixation.
Speaking of feline dentistry: Mycah had to have two teeth extracted this week; they were the left side upper and lower pre-molars — the ones right behind the canine teeth. She handled it pretty well, and was only a little bit feisty when painkiller dosing times came around. She has been exceptionally friendly since the V-E-T visit... which makes me wonder if she was having any discomfort before the extractions.
Makes me wish I could read her mind... but I suspect that if I could, I'd find her planning my demise.
Licking da cold prolly feels good, effun if yoor teefs don't hurt. We love licking the bag wif dad's ice pack in it (he puts it in a baggie so the condensation doesn't make his stuff wet) it just feels so smooth and cold...
Did Micah like the pain killers? My boy had surgery and the vet sent home three hypodermics for pain. He did not seem in pain the first night but he had to spend the first night locked in the bathroom to keep him away from his sister. I was worried because I am a heavy sleeper and did not know if I would hear him cry if he was in pain. I decided to give him an injection before I went to bed. I don’t know what was in it but I call it Kitty Crack! Within 30 seconds of the injection he was purring like crazy, rolling around and loving on his momma. I returned the other two to the vet before he (or I) could become addicted to it!

She seemed to take the painkiller in stride - she was a bit friendlier the first day, but the unhappiness engendered by the actual application of the painkiller (liquid, by mouth) seemed to make her a good deal less friendly than she might otherwise have been.
She does *not* like having things stuck in her mouth.
Amusing video. I wonder if it's just the condensation? I used to have a cat who enjoyed finding new sources of water (even if another more conventional one was nearby).
I fink Mycah likes the condensation. Or the plastic. Or bof. It tastes diffrint frum the bowls of water. Provide good, clean water, an any cat will drink frum a slimy puddle, wet baftub, or old trough. It's a cat fing. :-)

Licking the ice bag! Mycah is so cute. Maybe she likes the cold feeling on her tongue.

That ice is probably really cooling for her mouth after the extractions. Would she like an ice cube on its own to play with?

I tried giving her ice cubes - she won't have anything to do with them.
Maybe if I made "catnip tea" and froze it... but she's not a huge nip fan, either. Go figure.

I do not have a clue about the bag of ice.
