Info Bleg: Home Theater Receivers

I’ve been using a Samsung HW-C560S as the center of my home theater system for a few years, but I’m afraid it’s dying. It sends nothing to the surround speakers, the Blu Ray pass-thru has ceased functioning, and it’s always been a bit reluctant to respond to the remote from a mere 15 feet away.

So, I’m on the market for a new one. Requirements are few, but absolute:

  • 5.1 or better
  • Minimum of 4 HDMI inputs, one output
  • Infrared (*not* RF) remote
  • On-screen display for setup

Cost is less important than functionality, reliability, and/or service/support availability (if, Heaven forfend, it becomes necessary.)

At the moment I’m thinking a Yamaha might do.

Nothing wrong with the Yammies, however, you should probably look at the Denon AVR-33xx-CI series [the last two digits merely represent the year]. I have the AVR-3310-CI and it’s been a little gem (got it for $600).
