Another one gone.

It is with sadness that I note the passing of one of my favorite “one hit wonders,” Andrew Gold, who died June 3rd.

Pretty everyone of my generation will remember his best-known song, 1977’s Lonely Boy.

“One hit wonder” isn’t really a perfectly accurate description, though — he also penned “Thank You For Being A Friend.”

In the ’80s, he teamed up with 10cc‘s Graham Gouldman to form the group Wax, which charted with one of my favorite ’80s pop tunes, “Right Between The Eyes,” the video for which is delightfully cheesy.

Andrew Gold may not have been a household name, but some of his music will, perhaps, live on.

Sad indeed to learn that Andrew Gold passed away – I really loved “Lonely Boy” back in the day, I swear I wore that ’45 smooth. I think it was one of the first songs where I realized it was telling a story, or sharing a part of someone else’s life (rather than just about falling in or out of love).

I also had no idea about the association with Graham Gouldman, or indeed of the band “Wax” – thanks for sharing that!
